Meet the Founders

In 1997, brothers Britt and Tripp Brown started Brown Bros., Inc. with one dump truck and a bulldozer. This is their story, in their own words.

Britt and Tripp Brown got their start in construction working alongside their father, B Brown, who owned Brown Construction. That hands-on upbringing — more than 40 years of family experience between them — is what gave the brothers the confidence to go out on their own in 1997 and start Brown Bros., Inc.

What began with one dump truck and a bulldozer has grown into a team of over 100 employees and machines, serving Chattanooga and the wider Southeast as a premier land and site infrastructure contractor. The company is still run the way it started: hands-on, accountable, and built on respect for the work and for the hometown they grew up in.

"I knew at an early age what I wanted to do. I love being out on the job, moving the dirt and making it all come together. It's gratifying to see your results at the end of the day."

— Britt Brown, Co-Founder & President

The Brothers Behind Brown Bros.

Two brothers, one company, one standard for every job — from a one-acre residential lot to a 100-acre industrial site.

Britt Brown

Co-Founder & President

Britt co-founded Brown Bros., Inc. in 1997 and has led the company from a single dump truck and bulldozer to a 100+ person operation. He grew up working construction with his father, B Brown of Brown Construction, and still spends his time on the job, where the dirt gets moved and the results show at the end of the day.

In Britt's Words

Why did you and Tripp start Brown Bros.?

"We grew up in this business working for our dad. By '97 we figured we knew how to do the work and how to treat people, so we bet on ourselves. One dump truck and a bulldozer. That was the whole company."

What's kept the company growing for almost 30 years?

"Doing what we said we'd do. On time, on budget, no excuses. Most of our work comes from people we've already worked for — that only happens if you did the last job right."

What do you still love about it?

"Being out on the job. I knew at an early age this is what I wanted to do. You move the dirt, you make it all come together, and at the end of the day you can see your results. Not many jobs give you that."

Tripp Brown

Co-Founder

Tripp co-founded Brown Bros., Inc. alongside his brother Britt in 1997, building on the same family construction background under their father, B Brown. Nearly three decades later he's still hands-on in the work — you're as likely to find him in the seat of a machine as anywhere else.

In Tripp's Words

What did you learn working for your dad?

"Everything that matters. How to run equipment, how to read a site, and how to treat the people working next to you. Dad didn't hand us anything — we learned it in the seat."

What makes Brown Bros. different?

"We're not a company where the owners sit in an office. Britt and I are on the jobs. When your name's on the door, every project is personal."

What are you proudest of?

"The people. We went from the two of us to over a hundred employees, and a lot of them have been with us for years. Chattanooga's home — building it up with a crew like ours, that's the part that means something."
